On a gross exhibition surface of 69,000 m², a total of 837 exhibitors (2007: 844) from 19 countries will be displaying their products and services, including a large number of innovations. Despite the economic recession and the ongoing concentration process in the food sector, the number of exhibitors has been maintained at the same level as the previous time round. This stresses just how important Igeho is as the most prominent specialist exhibition in Switzerland. Together with Mefa, the trade exhibition for the meat industry, which is being held in parallel to Igeho for the second time, following the 2007 fair, some 80,000 trade visitors are expected at Messe Basel. The large number of special presentations and accompanying events will provide visitors with concepts, inspiration and networking platforms. Alongside a broad range of products, from vegetable peelers through to a sushi robot, or from electronic ordering software through to hotel furnishings, Igeho also has exotic offerings on display – including different country pavilions, like the ones for Brazil, Argentina and Japan.
A purely specialist exhibition
Igeho is a purely specialist exhibition for all those who are professionally involved in the catering and hotel trades. In 2007, the share of trade visitors was a high 84 per cent. Igeho’s clear position as a specialist exhibition has led to a decline in the number of private visitors, which is in the interests of its exhibitors. This has also been achieved through the Igeho alcohol regulations, which came into force in 2007 and introduced a charge for tasting beer and spirits.
Switzerland’s biggest meat counter
In parallel to Igeho, the players on the meat market are meeting up at Mefa 09, the specialist fair for the meat industry. Following the 2007 Mefa, the two exhibitions are now being held in parallel in Basel again for the second time – bringing additional benefits for exhibitors and visitors alike. The highlight at Mefa will be the presentation of the quality competition organised by the Swiss meat industry association, Schweizer Fleisch-Fachverband (SFF), which, with awards for more than 900 meat products, constitutes the biggest meat counter in Switzerland.
