business, training and information, the success of a new exhibition concept

At Fiera Milano-Rho from 24 to 28 November 2009

The slight decrease in the exhibiting spaces reported early in summer is recovering, also thanks  to the proposal of an exhibition capable of matching the offering of products with an innovative area were the exhibiting companies will be able to activate new relationships with the sector’s trade operators, according to two guiding principles: training and information.
The hall 11 will indeed host high-profile, international conferences, - focusing on sustainable development of productions, environment care, safety for consumers, -  as well as display areas dedicated to associations and to single enterprises to spread a communication aimed at these theme targets.

All over the world more than 560 billion litres of cold non-alcoholic beverages have been consumed in 2008 (waters, soft drinks and juices). Packaged waters are steadily improving their incidence and thanks to a higher growth rate, now they have outpaced carbonated soft drinks that historically held the consumption leadership in the sector of non-alcoholic commercial drinks. The worldwide   consumption of packaged water in 2008 has been estimated at 218.3 billion litres against the around 209 billion litres of carbonated soft drinks. In addition, a consumption switch has been recorded towards low-calories beverages (without sugars), natural (still) drinks (their consumption is valued at 70 billion litres) and functional drinks (enriched with energetic ingredients, mineral salts, vitamins, etc.). A smaller market size regards fruit juices and nectars – which are affected by the competition of the new natural drinks with less fruit content – whose output and consumption of nectars and juices worldwide are estimated at about 41 billion litres. However, the sector is able to maintain a positive growing rate, thanks its continuous innovation of product and packaging.
Moving to the segment of alcoholic drinks, despite the recession, the year 2008 saw the world beer market succeed in recording an increase: output and consumption attained 1,816 million hl in  2008, ( + 1.6% versus 2007). Nevertheless, some market balances have changed: for the first time in the last few years, Europe is showing a drop in production and consumption, appearing to be at a standstill also in the North American and Australian markets.

These are some of the figures 2008 regarding the beverage markets worldwide (waters, juices, soft drinks and beer), processed by SIMEI, International Enological and Bottling Equipment Exhibition, which will be presented in detail on the occasion of the 2009 edition of the trade show, scheduled to take place from Tuesday 24 to Saturday 28 November 2009 in the functional halls of the new exhibition fairground of Fiera Milano in Rho-Pero.

On the eve of the 23rd edition of the international event dedicated to technological innovation of machines, equipment, products and services for the preparation, bottling and packaging of beverages (wine, beer, spirits, brandies, vinegar, juices, alcohol, oil, mineral waters, carbonated soft drinks, etc.), the rise in applications for participation is confirming the optimistic forecast of early summer and SIMEI is recovering the slight decrease of late July. Almost all the exhibiting spaces have been occupied and the interest of national and international exhibitors keeps high. The already remarkable international character of the exhibition is still progressively growing. Among the new proposals, this year, there will be a delegation of Bulgarian companies (Pavilion 13) and a group of French enterprises from the area of Champagne (Pavilion 15); moreover, for the first time, SIMEI will have a direct attendance of China, with a product offering of filters, pumps and valves.
Therefore, this is a confirmation of the validity of the historical Milan trade show that, for the 2009 edition, is strongly renewed, especially in the concept of exhibition. To face a steadily developing market, the companies can no longer limit their relationships to their own reference targets within the exhibition and their sales actions: it is essential for them to establish a relationship with their own customers to communicate values. These values are related with their own capability of making technological innovation, as well as of being enterprises in a responsible, eco-sustainable and ethical way.

This is exactly the innovative formula which will characterize the 2009 edition of SIMEI and which will see the setting up of an exclusive area, on the over 2,000 sq m of Pavilion 11, where the exhibiting companies will be able to activate new relationships with the sector’s trade operators, according to two guiding principles: training and information. The hall 11 will host high-profile, international conferences, - centred on sustainable development of productions, environment care, safety for consumers, - as well as display areas dedicated to associations and single enterprises to spread a communication aimed at these theme targets.

Pavilion 11 will be the ideal location to activate these synergies, as it will be a pavilion marked by an intense activity. Here, for example there will be the area dedicated to the international press and the space reserved to the different foreign delegations; here all events and animations will take place and here the Wine bar and the Oil bar will be arranged, as convivial and relaxation moments, but also aiming at encouraging a high-level confrontation on the quality of productions.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENTS OF THE EXHIBITIONS

The Conferences
A conference on “Sustainable vine-growing and enology: trends, technologies and prospects”, is organized by Unione Italiana Vini and carried out with the scientific advice of famous Italian and foreign experts of the sector. Moderated by Attilio Scienza, the meeting scheduled to take place on 25 November 2009, will focus on the current vineyard management to understand which new factors should be aimed at, in order to optimize eco-sustainability: from the contribution of genomics and genetic improvement, to the agronomic operations and the mechanical processing. From the vineyard to the cellar, the attention will then move to the use of energy and the treatment of production rejects. In the foreground, there will be different case histories: from the use of phytosanitary products to the systems of remote sensing.

Two technical conferences are carried out by Unione Italiana Vini in co-operation with Assovetro and Federlegno. Glass and corks will be the protagonists of the meetings from the point of view of quality, of product eco-sustainability, as well as of the use in the different national and international markets. In particular, the specifications agreements with regard to bottles and corks will be presented, proving that the production chain – suppliers and producers – is more and more inclined to mutual commitments, in order to guarantee the quality of products and the safety for consumers. Among the discussed subjects, of course, there will be recycling, control, training and some case histories.

Wine bar and Oil Bar
Always in Pavilion 11, where the conferences will be held, several other events are planned.
The successful initiative of the Wine bar will be reproposed: an occasion – especially addressed to foreign visitors – to get acquainted and appreciate prestigious high-quality labels of our “Made in Italy”, thanks to the advice of the Onav experts (Italian Wine Tasters Organization), who will arrange to manage the tasting and will be able to illustrate our best wines in 4 languages. Offered by member-companies of Unione Italiana Vini, Agivi (Association of Young Italian Wine Entrepreneurs) and Le Donne del Vino (the Italian Association of Wine Women), the wines will range from red to white varieties, without forgetting rosé, sweet and sparkling wines.
This year, also the initiative Oil bar comes back again, conceived to promote the knowledge of the Italian extra-virgin oil world and managed by the qualified staff of Onaoo (Italian Organization of Olive Oil Tasters), which, in the last edition, by more than 4,000 tasting samples, offered the visitors the possibility of appreciating the variety and richness of flavours, fragrances and tastes of over 120 different products.

Mobile bottling. Another novelty on show will be the new area reserved to mobile bottling on lorries, set up in Pav. 11, which will accompany the historical exhibition always dedicated to bottling. Mobile bottling, started between the years ’70s and ’80s, turned out, over the years, to be a particularly interesting solutions for several typologies of Italian and foreign wineries, offering the possibility to take advantage of technologically advanced and sophisticated lines, without being compelled to bear the costs of their purchase and their arrangement within dedicated cellar spaces.

Online pre-registration
From the month of July, on the websites www.simei.it and www.enovitis.it , visitors will have the functional “Easy access” system of pre-registration at their disposal, which will enable them to receive an e -mail pre-registration receipt that, if printed, can be used to collect the entrance card directly at the Fair, at the self-service points, without wasting precious time at the reception desks.
